My sis and i are building a gift for our mom which is better a chicker coup or finshing the basement . the good things about the basement are more space and clean space.the good things about chicken coup is me and my mom love animals and farms,we live in the country,we have less work ,we could sell the eggs, i could pay for the food, i could do the chores,i could show them ,my mom had them as a child , and it wold cost less, we could sell the meat.,and we dont need more space in our house.

Farm work is hard on the hands, makes them hurt alot. Perhaps you could go to a leather worker and have tailored gloves made for her hands. To protect them from the knocks and scratches you get while working.
Your ideas would also be nice, perhap blend both.

Do the chickens! They are so much fun,and lay eggs to boot!
Make sure you buy Pullets (grow up to be hens), because you don't want nasty little roosters running around and fighting with each other, which they will do, I discovered when I got my first batch and they were "straight run" which means both males and females. We ended up with 90% boys. While they did eventually taste good I'd recommend hens! :)
If you want to sell meat you want to buy special "Broiler" breeds which are breed specifically to grow to size in 8 weeks. If you buy normal breeds it'll take 6 months and they will never be as tender.
Typically you need to buy 25 chicks (you can mix breeds and gender) at one time.

If you don't need the space then do the coop. Besides, if you start making money off the chickens you can always save up and do the basement later. Then you will have them both. We used to have chickens. It was always kinda fun gathering the eggs. Whenever the nieces and nephews came over they would chase the chickens. We always had double yolkers the next day.

well i would do the basement but it sounds like u would have more fun and bonding time w/ ur mom if u do the chicken coop. its a thoughtful gift-but think about it, are u really gonna take care of alll that? if u r-go ahead!

Well it's a sweet idea.....any mom would be blessed to have such thoughtful kids. You can also raise them and enter them and your eggs @ county fair.........The basement will make a nice family room, craft room, or game room for the family.......good luck!

decide which place your mom will spend the most time doin what she loves most and don't compare cost. The gift is about the person you're giving it too and she'll see how much thought you put in it, never thinking I could have had.... she's your MOM
