I have astayed at both and I prefer Luxor.
The hotel is unique (how many times will you get to stay in a pyramid), staff is curteous, they have a good arrangement of restaurants, their pool area is fun, and the Oasis Spa is fantastic.
I would suggest staying in the towers though only because the elevators in the pyramid are slow.

I've stayed at the Luxor and at Mandalay Bay and if the rates were the same, I'd choose Mandalay Bay every time. Mandalay Bay's rooms are really luxurious and comfortable, the staff is nice, the casino is beautiful and they have some phenomenal restaurants. The Luxor is fun and you really get to experience something truly different when you stay in one of the pyramid rooms. I haven't stayed at Paris because I've never gotten a good deal there and I don't like the casino itself but I do understand that the rooms are nice. If you can get it for the same price as Mandalay Bay or Paris, I highly recommend the Venetian - it is, in my opinion, one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in.

Just so you know, we stayed at the Luxor in March 2003 and while it was a nice hotel, we noticed that our room was always warmer than the outside corridor. We complained to maintenance several times and finally a mechanic confided to us that the Luxor really doesn't have air conditioning! To save money, instead of air, the Luxor has a system of circulating chilled water through radiators with fans blowing air through the rooms. We were warm in March, imagine summer!
I would try the Paris hotel. We went there to gamble and to see a show and it seemed like a very nice venue.

If you want a great location and great hotel stay at Paris--it's right in the middle of the strip across from Bellagio. They also have great restaurants and the best buffet on the strip.
Luxor is OK however it's all the way at the end of the strip so if you want to go to the other casinos you either have to walk really far or take the tram thing which takes a long time too.
Luxor is also a bit older than Paris--I like Paris for the rooms and ambience--it's also clean.
Luxor's pool is a little nicer than Paris--not sure if that's important to you or not.

I have stayed in both.
Room quality was similar (I stayed in a Luxor Tower Room as opposed to staying in the pyramid). The Tower rooms are newer and more comparable to the appointments at Paris.
Advantage to Paris: Location and scenery
Advantage to Luxor (tower room): Price without sacrificing quality
If money is not an issue, definitely stay at Paris.

I don't like the setup of the Luxor's hotel rooms. I would stay at the Paris, unless you want to walk out of your hotel room every time and have people looking up at you from the casino.

I think you will be happy in either of these two hotels. I will say that I was most inpressed with the ambience of Paris and it is located across from Bellagio where at night you can get a fantastic view of the water show. I like the Luxor, it is really nice inside and has the best spa, the Oasis Spa ... which they will give you a pass for if you stay at the Luxor for 2 nights or more.

I have stayed in many Vegas hotels but neither of these.
First, when you look for a hotel in Vegas consider this. All of the big hotels on the Strip are great. The most important things to consider are location, price, and in the summer you want to consider its pool area. So, stay on the strip in the center of all of the hotel locations so that you can walk to see all of the hotels and casinos, and all of the free attractions. The best place to stay to do that is in one of the hotels on or nearest to Flamingo Rd & the Strip. At that corner is Ceasers, Bellagio, the Flamingo, Ballys, and the Paris hotels. I am not saying you need to stay in one of these but stay close to them. I do recommend the Flamingo, Paris or Monte Carlo if you are looking for a good price, location and pool.
The next thing to consider in picking the BEST place is price. Rates go down in the summer (and again after Thanksgiving, until about mid-January (except new years eve when prices double)). So pick a place that has the best price for you. Ceasers and Bellagio will cost top dollar all of the time (like $150 and up) per night during the summer. Flamingo, Ballys and some others you can get into for around $100 (but most times for less) during the low seasons. Its also more expensive in all Vegas hotels on Friday and Saturday nights by $40 to $60 more, so to get a lower rate go Sunday and stay through Thursday night.
In the summer you probably want to spend some time at the pool areas which in Vegas are fabulous. All of the big hotels have great pool areas. But the Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo and MGM hotels have wave pools, and lazy rivers for tubing or body floating. The Flamingo has a water slide (not big but nice and refreshing) and also a water fall.
I have stayed at Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, MGM, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Ceasers, the Rio, the Flamingo, Ballys, and Harrahs. But the BEST place for me when I go is who has the best price. Again, all of the Strip hotels are great. So shop the web sites, look at the hotel rate calendars, and go when the price is the lowest. That's the best place to stay on the Strip.
