Originally, no. When I was younger I had them, but they were no where near as powerful as some of them are today.
But some of them today ARE bought just for that purpose. I knew a guy at work, and he said he bought his like that, because if someone pulled up beside him with a loud stereo, he wanted to come out the winner. I still thought it was stupid, but oh well.

for some subwoofers are a way of life. i like to cruise at night and battle other cars with my four ten inch woofers

no it is meant to enhance the quality of music or for some people to show off. However some people are not respectful of others when they should turn down there music.

Its all for the personal enjoyment of the music for that specific individual; they are not in any way shape or form purchased to annoy anyone, that would be silly.

depends on what neighbourhood you're in and where they are. in my opinion, you don't need to have them turned up loud- otherwise I might as well cash in on the hearing aid industry like my math teacher suggests.
