Teen pregnancy is a issue everywhere not just Milwaukee.

It shouldn't be an issue unless the teen is unable to provide for a baby. I was a teen mom. I got pregnat while I was on the birth control patch. That's what happens to a fertile woman when she sleeps with a man that has a high sperm count. My daughter is 2 and her father and I are getting married next year. I've never been on welfare, I graduated high school and my daughter has never done without. Oh, I guess I should say I was 18 when I gave birth. Please don't lump all teen moms into the same category. Yes, it is an issue with these teens that don't amount to anything, but I don't see the problem if you're mature and financially able for a child. I'm sure it's an issue in milwaukee just as it is everywhere else though.

It's an issue for several reasons.

#1. There is a rising trend to NOT teach kids about birth control. In fact our President wants to make it law that schools teach abstinence only like they do here in TX. It has backfired here, STD and pregnancy rates have gone up. Keeping kids ignorant doesn't work.

#2. Again, part of the same Christian agenda that is being forced on our country is the idea that if you don't teach kids about sex or birth control, they won't do it. All they teach is "just say no until you are married."

#3. Same groups are convincing teens that abortion is unacceptable.

#4. Having a baby out of wedlock is no longer a scandalous thing.

#5. 3 and 4 together is encouraging young girls to keep babies they have no business having or raising.

#6. More and more families have both parents working and not home to keep close ties on what their teens are doing. There is a lot of peer pressure to have sex, and yet somehow being prepared to be safe makes some girls feel like they are a whore.

So...you have lots of reasons.

I will say as one of the first generations to have the pill available, I am apalled that 40 years later, that accidental pregnancies are actually happening MORE often.

Too bad.

Let's forget about the fact that she's only 15 and shouldn't be pregnant in the first place. It should be her choice as to whether she wants to keep her baby or not. At least she's making a decision to give her baby a better chance at a life she can't provide since she's so young. If she wants to compromise with her father, why not find out if there is a family member willing to adopt the child as their own. That way both people sort of get what they want, the baby isn't being raised by the young lady but it is still in the family because it is being raised by an aunt, uncle, cousin or someone like that. Maybe even a close family friend.

It is truly an issue everywhere - the number of teen pregnancy are going through the roof. These "children" have so much more than a lot of us (sex ed in school, community service commercials, etc.) yet still they make babies - knowing that it is almost impossible that the couple will stay together. Further, they know that it will mess with their education, socialization, and normal teen activities.

It's not just in Wi. Teen pregnancy is EVERYWHERE unfortunately. It's like a growing epidemic.

Is your question "why is it an issue" or why is it an issue specifically in Milwaukee?

Is this a homework assignment?

There's a lot of blacks in Milwaukee. I don't mean chocolate, I mean black. Most, but not all, lack an education and skills. It seems, to me, that all they know how to do is spread their legs, go on welfare, and have us hardworking people support them!!!!

Probably is more of an issue there because there isn't anything to do out there.
