PCMCIA is an interface type mainly used in laptops to connect different devices. this could be
- analog modems
- LAN cards (wired and wireless)
- USB interfaces
- Firewire interfaces
- Interfaces for all types of memory cards (like CF, SD, SM, Microdrive a.s.o)

the cables you need are depending on the interface card type - USB, IEEE 1394, Cat5e (for LAN cards)

PCMCIA are card ports not cable ports. There are PCMCIA cards that are designed with a cable port in them, ex: modems and network interface cards. There are several devices that use this port. I believe it was originally designed to expand memory capability in the laptop PC. There are three types of PCMCIA ports, type 1, type 2, and type 3. So you need to know the type of port you have before you buy any of these devices. Other devices that I know of are: wireless network interface cards, hard drives, memory, USB adapter card, etc. There are many more, personally I am not a laptop owner so these are all I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps, good luck.

PS: you can go here to see what type of devices are available.

PCMCIA ports can accommodate cards that perform any number of functions. The crads can provide you with a wireless capability, ethernet access, modem, etc. Whether the card requires any cables depends entirely on the type of card you buy. As an example, if it is a modem card you will need a regular phone line with RJ-11 connection. If it is ethernet you will need a category-5 (Cat5) cable with RJ-45 connection. Wireless cards, of course, will need no cable.

If you can be more specific on the type of PCMCIA card, I'll try to help. Good luck!
