Is it necessary to have a firewall on my computer if I have one on my wireless router too?

I have a 2Wire with built in firewall and use the firewall provided by Windows SP2 and have no problems with either. I get plenty of protection. I never have a problem with download or accessing web sites by using the two. I do get notification from both of attempted downloads I did not request. I usually continue the blocking of these downloads.

Try it and if it causes any problems, you can always turn one of them off.

It's always a good idea to have a software firewall installed on your PC as well as the hardware firewall on your router.

I don't think that it's necessary, especially if you are pretty safe in your surfing, but it can't hurt.

I have several currently.

We have one on our router, one in the modem itself, and a software one in the computer.
