1. May

2. Hellraiser

3. Hellbound Hellraiser 2

4. A Nightmare on Elm Street

5. Saw

6. High Tension

7. Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

8. The Evil Dead

9. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

10. The Exorcist

Now you might ask why I didn't put The Exorcist as number 1 like everyone else does. The Exorcist is a great movie but I don't consider it to be a really scary one. May is listed as number 1 because this little known indie gem everyone can relate to, that's what makes it scary.

Dont watch any current movies... they mostly suck. The only recent ones that were good have been Exorcism of Emily Rose Devil's Rejects and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. Other than those, i wouldnt recommend watching anything too recent.

A few oldies but goodies:
The Exorcist
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (The first, the rest of the "sequels" are a disgrace to the first)
The Shining
Evil Dead 1 and 2

If you're more into slashers, (more **** and blood) then you're never wrong with any Friday the 13th movie, and if you want more recent, Hills Have Eyes and Hostel are good recent slasher flicks. Theres also a movie, May, that falls somewhere in between slasher and horror, but its a damn good movie.

I am going to move away from the mainstream and go with campy/cult/splatter horror films. Some might seem mainstream, but arent as mainstream as movies like Halloween and the old classics, or Saw and the modern money makers.

Hellraiser
Evil Dead I & II
Army of Darkness
Dead Alive
Audition
Night of the Living Dead
Toxic Avenger
Re-Animator
Cradle of Fear
Bloodsucking Freaks
Bad Taste

Well there you have it, a list probabl unlike anyone elses. If you enjoy a good cult fav or splatter film, these rank up there with the best of the big releases. Check them out!

So far, you guys haven't placed any good "scary" movies. No offense, but that is sad.

I'll just name one.

'Silent Hill' =the bomb, with surround sound, probably the best scary movie since exorcist: the begining

Hellraiser was ok too.

Silence of the Lambs, I Know What You Did Last Summer, the Halloween series, The Ring, Wrong Turn. And The Dentist 2, which is absolutely horrid but thinking back on it...*shudders*
