just wondering . . . my boss just got sentenced to 12 months in one today for tax fraud.

A minimum security detainment facility; typically without fences or armed guards. The incentive to not just walk away is that by doing so you'll be transferred to a medium or maximum security facility where life is FAR rougher. Only non-violent offenders are placed there. Tax fraud is one good example, as are other so-called "white collar" crimes.

It is what is usually called a low security facility. Usually people are sent there for "white collar crimes" like company fraud, embezzlement. Check this site for more info

a nice place for white collar criminals to go, almost like a country club-just a prison for felons who commit crimes against the govt such as tax evasion, fraud, corporate scams, etc. Ken lay would have been heading to one had he not "croaked".

It is a jail run by the US goverment and not the state or the county.
