The Berlin wall was erected by the Soviet Union after World War II. During World War II, Berlin was conquered by The United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union. The Soviets suffered great great great losses during world war 2 from the invading germans. The Soviets, vowed to never allow this to happen again.
Berlin was split up into 'zones' The American Zone, The French Zone, and the Soviet Zone. The soviets, had the biggest piece, which included all of east berlin and east germany. They put into place communism and an iron will over their people, so that the government could control it's resources into building itself up to be a very strong military power. The entire cold war itself, was a huge misunderstanding. The US and the western world saw this as aggressive tactics by the soviets, when all the soviets wanted to do was prevent another country from decimating their own again.
The berlin wall was eventually torn down by premiere gorbachev at the urging of president ronald reagan. Germany was soon reunified, and not long after, the soviet union broke apart into the republics we now have today.

The Berlin Wall is an iconic symbol of the Cold War, was initially constructed starting in 1961 and dismantled in 1989.
Conceived by the East German administration, the wall was a long separation barrier between West Berlin and East Germany (the German Democratic Republic), which closed the border between East and West Berlin for a period of 28 years.
It was built during the post-World War II period of divided Germany, in an effort to stop the drain of labour and economic output associated with the daily migration of huge numbers of professionals and skilled workers between East and West Berlin.

Wall built around West Berlin to stop East Germans from fleeing the USSR and getting into the Western European controlled West Berlin where the USSR had no power over them, however this resulted in all of East Berlin being sealed off from the rest of the world, every day bombers made food drops all over West Berlin because that was the only way supplies could get in until the Berliners finally got sick of it and tore it down themselves.

The Berlin wall was built by the U.S.S.R. in germany after the end of WWII. The purpose of the wall was to block all western influences from coming over to the communist or eastern germany. The wall was built between east and west berlin right on the territorry that was given to the soviets after WWII due to their part in driving the germans back to germany on the eastern front resulting in the soviets annexing eastern europe which therefore made these countries communist. When The U.S.S.R. fell in 1991 the wall was torn down reuniting east germany with west germany and signaling the end of almost all communism in eastern europe and the end of the cold war
