Sins of the father (or great-great grandfather) and all that.
Seriously, slavery was instituted in America when it was still "the colonies". Don't blame America, blame the Europeans who brought it here.

White people are still accountable for the disparity in wealth between blacks and whites. Black people as a group, do not make more money and live in fine houses as white people do. Why? Because white people control most of the wealth in the US. It's oversimplifying but poverty is a form of slavery. If you're poor you are not going to feel real good about yourself. You are likely poor because your ancestors have been kept poor by not being allowed to vote, to complete a good education, to be respected by others. There's a great film made called The Recurring Effects of Slavery. It's well done and will give you a sense of what effects racism has on all of us, white or black. You get a sense of what racism really was before the Civil Rights Movement pushed Congress to change the laws that worked against black people. Beastial things went on all the time. You will likely not belive what whites did to blacks, particularly in the South. There are photographs and letters written during those times. Whites did monsterous things. Whites were as bad as the Taliban or Al-Queda are today. Americans are black and white and other skin tones as well. White America still holds the power; that is slowly changing and has a long way yet to go.
But, there is so much to this subject and you really should investigate it further. We who are white Americans today did not inflict slavery on the black American but we are all a product of it nonetheless. There are many whites and blacks as well as people of other colors working towards changing that. Perhaps you'll join this effort.

The primary reason why many people, specifically African-Americans, still carry resentment about slavery is that the conditions that led to slavery still exist in the United States today. Many African-Americans live in conditions that are only vaguely better than their slave ancestors if at all. And, while white America wants to pretend all is well and just says, "Get over it;" the fact is that racism is still a dominant factor in the US and will impact the life of almost every minority person in the US at least once, if not repeatedly, throughout their lives.

It is the policy of last hired first fired among other things, not Slavery. Of course why is the Jewish Holocaust talked about when the Colored Holocaust was worst.
Is it any wonder why this accusation pops up at times?

WELL FOR THE SAME REASON THAT SOME PEOPLE WHO GET ROBBED BY A BLACK PERSON,THINK THAT ALL BLACK PEOPLE STEAL .
AND THEY BLAME ALL BLACKS.
I DON'T BLAME WHITE PEOPLE FOR SLAVERY.
THE ONES IN THE PAST,YES. THE ONES TODAY,NO.
BUT YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THE ANGER THAT SOME BLACK PEOPLE MIGHT HAVE.
SLAVERY WASN'T FOR 2 OR 3 YEARS,IT WAS FOR 400 YEARS!!!!
BECAUSE OF SLAVERY I DON'T HAVE MY AFRICAN LAST NAME(AND NEITHER DOES 95% OF AFRICAN AMERICANS),I DON'T KNOW WHAT PART OF AFRICA MY ANCESTORS ARE FROM OR THEIR CULTURES.
I MEAN THIER ARE JEWISH PEOPLE(WHO I KNOW OF PERSONALLY)THAT HATE THE GERMANS NOW AND THE GERMANS WHO DID THAT TO THEIR PEOPLE.
SO THAT IS PROBALY THE REASON FOR THER BLAME.
IS IT WRONG?
YES.
BUT YOU SHOULD REALLY READ ABOUT THE HORRORS THAT WENT ON WITH BLACK PEOPLE FOR 400 YEARS,THEN YOU'D DEFINATELLY UNDERSTAND THE BLAME AND ANGER.
MY GOD!!
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN AMISTAD OR ROOTS?
THOSE ARE ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBURG.
WATCH THOSE MOVIES AND THEN THINK ABOUT YOUR PEOPLE GOING THROUGH THAT FOR 400 YEARS.
HOW OUTRAGED WOULD YOU FEEL?
AND YOU WOULD WANT TO PUT THE BLAME SOMEWHERE.
SERIOUSLY GO TO YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY AND READ UP ON IT.
YOU WILL BE SHOCKED,DISGUSTED AND DISTURBED.

Do they? I live in the South and I've never been blamed for slavery, but those who do usually have issues with themselves. Don't take it personally.

people live in the past. I live in the future you can not worry about what happened yesterday and last year or even last century . You only need to worry about today and tomorrow.
