They can put them in the toilet area, but not pointing into privacy area's ie cubicles and urinals, due to privacy. They should also put signage up that the camera's are there but this is not law, They MUST have a policy, for what will happen to the footage, ie it's overwritten every x amount of days, and any films being held for what ever period must have correct storage which must be in secure lockable area, under the data protection act you are entitled to see any data that has been compiled. If the school is operating covert (hidden) filming again there must be written instruction that this is there policy. I would write to the school, politely (write not phone, as a call is not recorded, a letter will be kept on record) Express your concern, and ask for a copy of the data protection policy, and any other policies which relate to the use of cameras within the school, keep it calm, keep it polite you could also ask to see the welfare policy.

i think what they should do is lessen the penalties for fighting in school. Honestly, how do u stop a bully? Do u tell a teacher? No, becuz then they'll make fun of u more cuz they know you're scared and hiding behind authority. Do u ignore it? No, it'll eventually eat away at u until u crack. Do u ask them to stop? No, they'll make fun of u for that too. The only way to get rid of a bully is to put up a fight, throw a punch, and show them you're not afraid to fight. When they realize that you'll fight them (even if u lose) you'll get respect and they'll leave u alone when you're too much trouble to bully but, in schools, the penalty for fighting is so strict (i kno why it's there) that u can get expelled for it, when really, that's the only way to end bullying

Yes... you can remove your child from this school. Then go to your local television station, and get the news team involved.

I can't think of one single reason to have cameras in the toilets. If there is a problem in there, they can assign a male teacher to stand inside the common area (sinks... just inside the doorway... off to the side of the room.... anywhere) during breaks between classes. But to put cameras in a rest room is a complete invasion of privacy, and you should not put up with it.

Look at it this way... if your favorite restaurant put cameras in the toilets, would you continue to go there for dinner?

I've seen cameras in the sink area of school bathrooms, but not the toilets themselves. If they have a camera trained right in the stall I would contact the district legal department right away.

I would certainly contact the school in the first instance for clarification as to their reasons, follow this up with contacting the education department and a lawyer.
I'm curious as to what the school suspects is going on in the toilets that they need footage of..... surely if it's to catch skivers all that is required is regular checks by staff members!

Yep, I work in a prison...and it is even illegal to put cameras in the toilets in a prison! It certainly can't be legal in a school. Get an attorney, who ca go to the school board and such.

NOT in the actual loo surely?

If it was in an area where the wash hand sinks are then maybe, as kids loiter around there.

I would go ballistic is they put them in the actual privacy of the loo itself.

go tell em and say I sent you. I back you all the way.
