Lacrosse (lower-case c) isn't a familiar-enough sport with most North Americans to warrant its own category. It's big in the east (New York to Virginia), in Colorado, and in California. Most other areas have only barely heard of it or are just getting into it in the last five to ten years. Outside NA, it's not even that common, with most other countries not fielding a respectable NATIONAL team.
In contrast, everybody in Canada knows about curling, as well as many in the USA, and it's an Olympic sport, which means it's played and televised worldwide.
