In order for the third term to be turned around, Labour need a new leader and a new set of ideas: something to engage voters again.

Why vote Labour? 1979-1997 was a very dark time time for British politics - we're now reaping the 'benfits' of much of Tory policy during their terms in office: the destruction of British manufacturing; the total annihalation of unions and labour rights (though some Tory curbing of Union power was a good thing - they just went too far); the carving up and back-door privatisatioin of the NHS; the lack of money that was pumped into education, the NHS and transport, and so on and so on.

Labour may not be upto scratch at the moment but the alternatives are frightening!

Essentially, it's up to us to make them do what we want them to do.

The the three major parties (Labour, Conservative and Lib Dems) all campaign on pretty much the same lines (efficient government, social responsibility, low taxes, etc).

So the incumbent gets the benefit of the doubt until their mistakes mount up and mask the mistakes of the other lot (eg Lamont's Black Wednesday, Major's Rail Privatisation, Major's screw-ups in Ulster)

So Labour do daily crisis management with the tabloids in a bid to be seen to be dealing with their mistakes to minimise the impact

The mistakes are mounting up (eg cut backs in mental health care causing overflows in the prisons, lack of housebuilding leading to impossible entry levels for new home owners, lack of special affecting schools scores, lack of immigration control, military cutbacks due to poor purchasing decisions like EuroFighter reducing ability to fight/increase in casulties in Iraq and Afghanistan, devolution without answering the West Lothian question, etc). All it takes is either the slow drip of sleaze (2 Jags?) or a couple of big balls ups that come directly from Labour policies and then they will be voted out

Have Labour been that bad? I don't seem to remember high inflation or interest rate since 1997, do you? I am old enough to remember both the Conservative of the 80's and Labour in the 70's and I never want to go back to that. I think you are looking for change for change sake. To paraphrase someone else (Wilson, I think) "you've never had it so good".

Blair is too wrapped up with other countries to see what happening at home.

He is trying to get longer holding times for terrorists but won't even discuss longer jail sentences for murderes and child abusers.

Primeministers should deal with his own country first.

Why is it that the man in the street can see an answer to a problem but a politician can't.

Things like make parents responsible for kids up to voting age, if they act like thugs them make the parents pull their kids into line. If they don't then punish them.

A young child of 6 was playing in the street and got run over and where were her parents? "In the pub". They said they thought she would be fine for an hour as she was playing with friends.

They blame kids coming from a broken home for a lot of it, well my came from a broken home but mine never went out and beat old ladies and took their pensions or terrorised anyone. If they wanted something and I couldn't afford it then they went out doing small jobs for mainly family and friends and earned the money. I was responsible for my kids.

Get the politicians out who are only there for statis and money and put the man in the street in who really want to do something for the country and not on this 4 year thing where we are stuck with them bad or good, but give him a contract like any other business and if he doesn't come up to scratch sack him

All as bad as each other. I have no answer I'm afraid. Even a hung parliament would be a total waste of time.
Maybe if , oh I don't know, I give up. Maybe thats the best bet. We all give up , just like Tony.

Who else is there to take Their place? The other parties are no better and they would end up feathering their own nests like the previous governments have done.their does not appear to be one single politician or party you can trust.
