A bastard is a son or daughter who is raised out of wedlock. Usually a married man and his lover. This was rather controversial in the old days because they did not have any right to land, title or money. The laws have since changed and bastards actually do not exist in the legal sense.

Even more importantly, your parents have been together for 30 years. Whether your parents were legally married or not, you are the legitimate daughter and heir, so the farthest thing from of a bastard. However, that guy in the White House....

Hello,

It could be in more ways than one. Marriage dosen't have to be legally, from my point of view. If two people agree to love and honour each other for the rest of their days and have some close people there, it is considered marriage. A bastard is so diverse and means different things now. So if you are asking you a meaning of bastard in a dictionary it would be yes. But from a family point of view it would be no.

If your parent have like a joint union, i don't think you are a bastard.

Boy, so many ignorant people. A bastard is a child born to an unmarried woman. Every child has to have a father, except Jesus Christ, reportedly.

Your parents may be married if they have held themselves out as married for the required period of time in a state that recognizes "common law" marriages. Since you don't say what state you're in or they have lived in, I can't say much more.

Bastard? How f'ing archaic...

I don't consider you a bastard - not that my opinion means anything...and if you were to be a bastard, what the heck, revel in it, cuz in this day and age, no one really cares about that kinda stuff...they love you anyway. So the next time someone calls you a bastard, just smile and say "Why, yes....yes I am." and then give them the finger..

Only by traditional standards - a bastard is someone born out of wedlock or who was born in a marriage that the Catholic Church annulled. Children born to unmarried women/couples are more common than ever, so that label is hardly applicable anymore. Don't worry about it, your parents obviously have a stable, long-term relationship which is more important than the technicality of a marriage.

I also believe no child if they have no father in their lives is still no bastard, its just an ugly word to call a inocent child. I hope your parents many more blessing years to come even though they no wedding. God bless.

No, you are not a bastard. A bastard is someone who doesn't have a father. Obviously, everyone has a father, but if you don't even know where your father is at and haven't seen him since you were a baby, you are a bastard!

In some religions you might be, however, after 30 years your parents are probably considered to be common law married.

If your parents were never married, yes....I'm sorry, but it does. If they were in a state that allowed "Common Law Marriage," they they could file for those papers in the appropriate state.
