Suggest she read about being a mom, how to raise a baby, etc, for the babe's sake.

For herself, she may want to read www.hufa.org, the symptoms page because it may help her to understand why she likes to drink so much, what she can do to substitute healthier stuff for the drink, and how what she substitutes may help make the cravings go away.

Working out is good as long as she doesn't over do it. If she never excercised before she'll need to take it easy and start slow. Also she should talk to her ob/gyn for some recommended excercises.

She could take up a hobby like sewing, embroidery or knitting. Something where she has something in her hands and she could make useable things for the baby.

If she's been drinking through her pregnancy, she has very likely already given the child Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.  It's a terribly cruel thing to bear a child with the retardation and other effects of FAS.

Leaving pregnancy aside, I'd suspect alcohol addiction issues. Having excess spare time that is freed up by abstaining from drink suggests this.

How about devoting some of that time to AA meetings?

First of all, congratulations on the baby!

You gave some very good suggestions. I can add sewing, knitting, crocheting, or just about any other activity she can engage in besides drinking.

well lets see you can still hang out with your friends without drinking you can still go to parties and drink soda or non alcoholic beverages. i know that it's hard not to think about drinking it was hard for me when i found out i was pregnant at 17 and i wanted to party and hang out with my friends but then i talked to some women who decided to keep drinking and found out their kids are now mentaly retarted and one was born with some prietty bad deformities so i would put my kids first and think about their futures i know i wouldn't want to do anything to screw up my daughters future.
