I just left the doctor's and I thought of a question. She is putting me on Clomid and I wanted to know if it only helps people who DONT ovulate or if it helps people who do ovulate and just increases their chances

Clomid is used only to help those women who don't ovulate. Clomid stimulates the ovaries to release eggs, which previously wasn't happening.

I'm going to include the link to a trying to conceive forum, with a special section for women using clomid, that I think you might find helpful. It's full of supportive women, with boundless knowledge about these issues. I learnt so much there that I doubt I would have learnt otherwise.

Clomid CAN be used to help a woman who is going thru fertility treatments to increase egg production and maturity. However, it is most commonly used for woman who are not ovulating or who have irregular ovulation. It is also sometimes used for Male Infertility, though not approved by the FDA.

The following is from the link I provided.

-It is one of the selective estrogen receptor modulators that acts as an anti-estrogen and tricks the pituitary gland into producing more FSH and LH, which, in turn, stimulates the ovary into producing more eggs and follicles. Generally, Clomid follicles are larger than injectible follicles right before ovulation.

and the second link

-Clomid influences the way that the four hormones required for ovulation, GnRH, FSH, LH and estradiol, relate and interrelate. While we do not completely understand the mechanisms by which this drug works, in essence it appears that Clomid fools the body into believing that the estrogen level is low. This altered feedback information causes the hypothalamus (an area of the brain) to make and release more gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) which in turn causes the pituitary to make and release more FSH and LH. More follicle stimulating hormone and more luteinizing hormone should result in the release of one or more mature eggs - ovulation.

Was it your GYN or Reproductive endocrinologist that put you on clomid. Best bed is a RE. Clomid has best results when used cycle days one through five followed by an HCG injection on CD 10. This way, your ripest eggs will release. Clomid induces ovulation as well as the number of eggs to be ovulated. I would suggest getting IUI intrauterine insemination to increase chances of fertilization.

Clomid is used to induce ovulation, to correct irregular ovulation, to help increase egg production and to correct luteal phase deficiency.

people who do ovulate dont need it. there is no point... since they are already ovulating. unless the ovulation is irregular.

good luck!
