I live in a small town called temple, tx for like six years now and it's like people dont like to smile much or be friendly as people in the city. And when I go to a big city like Austin or Dallas, it's a much different atmosphere. People like to greet me and give me compliments. What's up with that?

Most likely because in small towns, everyone know eachother and the area very well. So they're basically protective of their town and people. As far as for smile or be friendly I believe it is because people in small town know they care about eachother.

Just think of this, in your family, do your parents alway smiles and compliment you? No they don't! They know you and you know them, so none of you have to impress eachother.

However think about yourself in a school. You tend to be a bit more friendly because you don't know every single people in the school.

In large town, people come across new face everyday. They could go for weeks without see same face outside of their own family or work place. So they would have to put on their best impression for in case they need something.

However personally I think small town people are more friendly once you really get know to them and I like small towns better.

I get that a lot when I travel to San Diego and make pit stops along the way. People at the gas station and restaurants are happy go lucky, however, when you go elsewhere... I get a lot of blank stares. Go figure. Maybe it just because people in small towns don't realize that there is more to life than their community.

I'm from a big city and I think it's the other way around. When I go down south everyone speaks but up north that's not going to happen as much.

I always thought people from smaller townships were much more polite than people coming from the congestion of bigger cities.
