I think that there is way too much hip hop and rap s*** on the radio. I never hear Green Day or Avril Lavigne anymore... its all hotshot rappers talking at 120 mph.

While I'm not particularly a fan of the newer rock or punk, anything would be an improvement over the "music" to which you refer. Trust me, though, it's on the way out. Noticed clear signs last year but, like any trend, it may take a couple of years before it's clearly noticeable. (And also, like any trend, subject to an eventual comeback.)
If it makes you feel any better, Rock & Country both still rule on the album charts and, most definitely, on the concert scene. Rap/hip-hop really only dominates the singles charts and then, just barely. Even in the old days of really good R&B and "Soul" music, those tunes only made their mark on the singles charts. Albums by artists in these genres don't hold up to the standards set by their singles, whereas in most Rock & Country, the entire albums are generally as good, if not better, than the singles which are selected for their mass commercial potential.
By the way, it is a statistical fact that most music radio stations in the US are programmed to Country! (At least that's what was reported last year in a Washington Post article.)
All music has it's place, though, even that which most of us can't
stand. Don't worry. The winds of change are upon us. I know the industry too well. Thanks and keep on rockin!

I'm confused...you say you want to hear more rock and punk...but you complain that they aren't playing Avril Lavigne? She's not rock or punk, she's pop. No question about it. Everybody needs to get XM satellite radio. Screw terrestrial radio...it's all owned by Clear Channel. XM has several different rock stations. They even have an all punk station (Fungus 53). And it is real punk...not Avril Lavigne. They also have a bunch of different hip hop stations and some pop stations, as well. If you want to actually listen to the radio, XM is the way to go.

First of all Green Day? Avril Lavigne? NOT PUNK but more so "Trendy Pop Wanna-be Punk". If you want punk to be main streamed, then you are forgetting why the punk scene was started in the first place, if you are even old enough to remember how it started.

Rap is a thing of its own and it wouldnt be rap if they didnt do it as fast as they do (120 mph as you say).

Stop being narrow minded. No one is forcing you to listen to rap on the radio, If you dont hear enough of "your punk music" on the radio then go buy the CD, thats why they sell them!

I wouldn't exactly describe Avril Lavigne as "punk", heck and Green Day though I do still like them, are way more pop nowadays...

really, punk is best served "below the radar"... once its on commercial radio its commodified and commercialized.. goes against the whole subculture undergound its supposed to represent.

I agree, but Greenday and Avril Lavigne just got too played out to me. But I think they should play more stuff like Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Ten Years, and stuff like that.

Heck, I just want the rap/hip hop removed from my otherwise perfect public radio station.

I'll agree more punk and rock!

Oh I definitely agree! I hate rap, its not even music so much as a reason for people with no musical talent to make tons of money. Pretty much all the guys sing about is how many girls they can bang and the girls sing about how all the guys cheat.

blah blah...

GREEN DAY RULES!

This depends upon where you live. If you're fortunate enough to live in a larger market ( NYC, Chicago, Dallas ), then there are plenty of radio station options. Consider installing a satellite system in your car or home so you can specialize in what you listen to.
