Different. Not better. Family Guy is edgier, but the Simpsons are more family friendly.

I like both, but The Simpson is one of my faves. In the Family Guy, the characters are ALL extremely one dimensional. In any given situation, I can almost preict what each character will do or say. (giggedy, giggedy!)
In the Simpsons, only Homer is deliberately kept that shallow. If ever he does learn something of show a little growth, he always returns to his selfish, drunken habits. The other characters have grown and shown differing degrees of maturity and tolerance. (Oh, all right! Little Maggie doesn't change, but she is more of a background prop than a real character.) Bart knows what he is and clearly desires to change, but finds he cannot. Lisa will continue to honor learning and, at least keep an open mind about others who do not support her beliefs. Marge is the strong, flexible mother who will find a way for her family to survive. She is often shown as being the most creative at adapting to her houshold chores.
In short, the Simpsons is character driven, and I like that. The Family Guy relies on gags and making fun of others. I get a kick out of a clever gag or spoof.

The Simpsons are way better than Family Guy. All Family Guy is is a bunch of sex and toilet humor jokes strung together. The Simpsons, on the other hand, make fun of daily life in a sometimes very subtle manner. I've watched repeat espisodes and caught jokes I missed the first time.

Family Guy is mostly el plagarismo of The Simpson's jokes. I like both shows though, mostly because of Stewie on Family Guy. I agree however that the last five-ten seasons of The Simpsons have been steadily declining.

the short answer
YES
Here I must give family guy its due credit as i enjoy both shows. Family guy is clearly funnier than simpsons. But simpsons has something that family guy tryed to capture, tried to copy, and failed.
Simpsons is good because it speaks to everyone. Every caracture in the show has been strictly thought out and executed to represent the classic or "stereotype" of its worldly characture.
if we examine each characture of the simpsons cast, we will find a well planned equalibrium of people. A cast that cannot be captured EVER.
altough family guy is funnier, simpsons is better written, better planned, and better drawn (in my opinion)

Personally, I think Simpsons stopped getting like super funy around the 12th season. I mean yeah sure you still get the ha's here and there but on family guy, stewie cracks me up. So yeah Simpsons are like the longest running show but right now I think people would settle for family guy

Hell no!
Family guy is funny, edgy, and SO over the top with its political-incorrectness, it blows simpsons away. Now, for the over 40 (years old) crowd and under 40 (IQ points) crowd I'm sure the simpsons are a theigh-slapping dream, but Nothing is better than Family guy. (American Dad just sucks outright) When Peter tried to breast-feed Stewie...ah now THAT is funny. Not once have I seen Homer try to breast feed bart.
