Because once a country has a new technology, it will always have that technology. Progression is a fundemental aspect of free societies.

At the time we first developed nuclear weapons we didn't understand the full consequences of them. Now that we know, we don't want crazy rogue states to have them because if they got them, the whole world would be at a far greater risk. We keep our nuclear weapons in case countries like N. Korea decide to go nuking all of it's enemies.

We do, and so do several other nations.

The only nations that we do not want to have nuclear weapons are those who would use them offensively (or at all, really), especially wild, unstable governments. North Korea has already shown a willingness to use them. It would always be a possibility that Iran would use them, especially against Israel. And then there's the liklihood that Iran would sell nuclear weapons to terrorists (as Saddam would have).

Yes we have nuclear missiles and we aren't war hungry like most of these other countries. If they could send a nuke here and kill us all then they would and then they would be the top dog. It's all about power and control.

Actually WE are the only Country that has EVER used a nuclear weapon against another country - have you all forgotten Japan being blown to smithereens?

We believe that rouge nations (those that are not one of our allies) will want to blow us up and their leaders so unstable and egotistical that they just might start WWIII.

Does that make you think of our President by any chance?
