As a masochist, I say anything worth doing hurts a little. Yes, having your cartilage pierced will hurt for a while, but you are putting a hole through a body part. It does get better with time and proper care.
The most important thing, however, is deciding who will do this for you. Do not just go to the closest place. Check a few different shops, get some advices from people in tattoo/pierce shops, and get some recommendations from people who have the piercing you want. A little research comes in handy, plus you will take better care of a well pierced ear, and it will heal faster. Good luck!

If your getting it on your ear (I'm assuming..cause your nose is cartilage too) its going to hurt, but make sure you go to a Tattoo shop not like a Claire's or Piercing Pagoda because they use a gun..wich breaks the cartilage instead of poking a hole in it. A needle is a lot safer and your healing time is less long and its less likely to be infected. Clean it with saline and soap and water..I don't care what anyone tells you...its the cleanest way and after about a week or so it won't be sore anymore and well worth it.

Well i have seven piecings and they are all in my ears. I got the first ones at the bottom when i was little. But i got after that, two above eack bottom one on each ear. And i did those myself. That hurt. But then when i wanted to get the 7th hole in my cartilage, i went to a peircing place. It took like 3 seconds, they marked where i wanted it, i picked an earing and they did it. It did not hurt, what hurt was waking up with it sore because i had slept on it. If you dont clean it well then it will easily get infected for the first month and it takes 6 to heal. After the first month, take out the stud and wear a gold hoop because it will cause a bump in your ear from a stud in there too long.

It isn't so much the needle going in as the pain afterwards. It really burns and until you've had your stud in for a few weeks turning it and stuff is painful too. Remember this isn't a flap of skin that will heal over. you will always have a hole in your cartilage even if the skin over it heals up.
You need to be super careful in keeping it clean as it's more prone to infection and I have been advised that the needle as opposed to the gun is the safer way to go about it.
I have 2 in my left ear and 1 in my right btw. Much prefer them to lobe piercings

The piercing itself doesn't hurt. There's no nerve endings in the cartilage to hurt.
It can be uncomfortable sleeping with a stud for 6 weeks. The end pokes into your head on that side. Other than that, it's no biggie.

When I got mine pierced, I didn't even know the lady had done it. Then my ear got very warm. After that, it was tender to the touch for about a month.
It doesn't hurt initially, but be prepared to sleep on the same side for several weeks.

weeeeeeeeeell,
when i had it done it hurt, more than getting your normal ear pierced, but its not so bad that i wouldnt try it again (i took the earring out too early and it got infected *tear*) if its something you want, go for it, five years from now when you have a cute cartilage piercing, it wont matter how it felt
at least thats my opinion . . .

I can't tell you were to get it done. However, if you sleep on your side I would suggest that you get it on the opposite side. I have had mine done several times and never could get it to stop hurting and heal properly. I have several body piercings and I never had trouble with them. The cartlidge just didn't work out for me.

i had two in one ear..it hurt worse AFTER i did it....i did it at claire's...don't go there..go to a real piercing place..it's cleaner, safer and they have cooler stuff to choose from....it's more expensive than like claire's but they did something weird to mine so when i took it out it didn't heal well...would've been worth going to a tattoo/piercing shop!!! it wasn't a big deal..just don't sleep on that side of your face, clean it and don't use the phone on that side for a while....def wasn't as bad as my tongue or belly button...all i have taken out though... good luck!
