The cell phone is covered in transmission fluid and it is greasy and sticky. I have no idea what is a safe chemical or cleaner to use to degrease the phone.

A good safe degreaser is Simple Green, which can be found at wal-mart or usualy a local store in the household cleaning dept. I would spray a cloth then wipe down the phone. I degreased my engine with it, check if it is concentrated for full degrease potential.

Since it can't be washed I would try turning it off and turning it face down in kitty litter (the universal spill cleaner, even HAZMAT teams use it!) for a day or so.

Try using spirit and a damp cloth or cotton to wipe the phone.
