It depends on the purpose or recipient of the CD. For example, a CD you plan on giving to a girl you like should convey a certain message, so avoid anything overtly suggestive and keep things within the confines of the message you are trying to send. If you are making a CD for a party try to organize the song list in such a way as build to a peak and not drop off toward the end. A mellow mix should start off reasonably fast and finish slow. Depending on the type of music you listen to, try to always put the best songs towards the middle of the mix, so as not to run out of material at the start. It isn't an exact science, rather its more of a matter of taste. Whatever you choose make it progress like a poem; Balance, content and meaning are the main factors to remember.

What I always do (I know this is pretty dorky, but I like to make good CDs) is make sure the transition between songs is good.
Here are some tips:
*If a song ends quietly, then it's a good idea to have the next song end quietly, as well.
*If a song ends rather abruptly, what I like to do for the next song is to find one that has a quick drum intro, or something that can serve as a quick interlude.
*Make sure that all of the songs you use adequately capture the mood you are trying to create with the CD.
*What I usually do is listen to the end of a song and how it moves into the next one, to make sure that I like how it sounds before I burn it.
*Listen to some of your favorite albums, and just note the transitions between songs, and analyze what makes them work.
Remember that there are two ways to make a CD. You can just throw in a bunch of songs that don't necessarily go together just so you can have them on CD. The other is to make a CD that you want to listen to all the way through, without ever skipping a song. That takes a good ear, and it might take a while to develop that skill. Eventually, it will become like an art. I think that one of the biggest keys to making a great album is song placement. (Take Nirvana's "Nevermind" for example. That CD wouldn't be nearly as good had any other song started off the CD other than "Smells Like Teen Spirit," and no other song would make a better conclusion to the album than "Something In The Way."

Song 1: Put there most populer song here
Song 2: Give us something new like one of there newer songs
Song 3: something fast
Song 4: give us a head banger something LOUD
Song 5: a bit slower but keep it fast still
Song 6: slower more quiet songs belong here
Song 7: scare us to death with something loud
Song 8: put a lousy song here so we can all laugh
Song 9: any thing thats left should go here
Song 10: make sure this ones good or else they will remeber a bad song!

Begin with a good up tempo first song...a song that makes the listener want to hear more....make the next two songs or so the same up tempo ..then bring in the slower ones. Finish off with a good song, medium to fast tempo.
It is all about drawing in the crowd, getting them to listen and purchase your product :)

Number them in the order you want.Other wise they will go in alphabetical order. If you notice there are ways to change the order by clicking the tabs over the song list.Name,Date modified, length, file size,etc...if you click one of those it will put them in a different order. If you want to control the order you will have to change the file name by adding a number to the beginning of the file name. After you make the CD you can change it back. Also create a new folder where you can drag the songs you want on the CD.In the folder you can change the name to fit the order you want.

hi there, if you put an upbeat song first, something to catch the listeners ear immediately, the rest is pretty much up to you. put your title cut about 3 songs down. liven it up a bit and interject slow music toward the end. or, one half of the cd shlo ,the other side fast like karen white did. "dance me", "romance me". good luck. catherine

It all depends on the flow. Are they close to the same key, do they have the same energy, are they close to the same subject. If you were hearing a band live, or were a memeber, would you want to add something slow or fast after the previous? Just experiment.
