I had never heard of these until I came across it here and then I saw that they were illegal in California but not why. Are they illegal anywhere else?

Believe it or not, these cute little critters are voracious predators...at least of insects and small birds. They could do a number on the songbird population if irresponsible pet owners let them go and they started breeding. They could easily thrive in most of California.
State regulations on sugar gliders vary.

California has laws that make it illegal to own exotic animials. California does not want those animals getting lose and destroying the enviornment, not that the people aren't already doing that. Each state makes their laws about what is legal and what is not. Finding out what is legal in any state can be complicated but doing the right search can help you, also if you want to know what is legal for sure go to a pet store.

maximum probably because they are an unique species. they are nevertheless seen to be unusual pets, and many human beings may get them not understanding the thanks to take care of them and they could finally end up in shelters. also, they're a secure species. it may in ordinary words be unlawful to promote sugar gliders in California (for that reason). it may not be unlawful to own one.

Ugh... EVERYTHING is illegal in California... They are an Australian possum species and Cali is notorious at restricting exotic pets... not really sure why.

Because when it rains they dissolve and crash to the ground and the pilot and aaall the passengers die everytime...
AND it wasn't an inappropriate category!!!
