I am rebuilding a Pont 400 with a 76 block and 67 "670" heads however the push rods are too long. Has anyone else had this problem? The pushrods are from the original 67 motor. (9.145") It now appears they need around a 8.9 " or something length.

I was actually going to look this up in the parts catalog, but I don't think I need to anymore. Here's the skinny: All Pontiac heads will fit on all pontiac blocks, if the engine size is 326 or bigger. There are a few differences internally, but the pushrod length on your engine should not have changed. Therefore, I am thinking that something else is different. What else did you change? Did you buy new lifters? Methinks THAT is the real culprit. I remember someone telling me that Chevy lifters will work, but you want Pontiac lifters. Something about the pushrod lenght, IIRC...

Did you shave the heads and/or the block deck? If so, this will likely explain why you need the shorter pushrods.
