I think some people don't like to read nowadays because things are made so EASY for them. They have computers, Ipods, digital cable, mp3 players, etc. Some people get so wrapped up in these "techno" things that they tend to forget the simple pleasure of reading a really good book.

I frankly can't understand people who hate reading! I love, love, love to read as much as I can-as many books as I can check out from my local library at a time.

Tecno fads come and go, but books are forever and I would rather spend my time with in my opinion, the greatest contribution mankind has made to the world, than with a techno fad.

Perhaps people who don't like to read have a misperception that it is boring and totally un-exciting, but it certainly isn't! I hate to sound like a cliche, but reading really is an adventure! :) If your friends and cousins don't agree, well, then that's okay. YOU know better! :) Just keep reading. I bet in the future, they'll realize that you were right.

They could be bored with it, lazy, think that it's a waste of time, or just can't read good. I have the same problem where I read a lot and get made fun of because of it.

I think people lack imaginations nowadays. I don't watch a lot of T.V. or movies so books filled in that gap for me but I think people now just like the ease of T.V. because it does the work for you. Keep reading, at least this way you will always be smarter than your friends Ha.Ha.

Some think it may take too long...They enjoy the movie so they don't have to think they just watch and it tells them whats going to happen...If u are old enough i have a good book for u to read its called G-Spot (not what u r thinking) I forget who its by i will have to come back with that bit of info....its a black author though.

Reading is work at first, which is what people do not wish to do. Congrats to you for pushing past the hard part to like reading. You will be an example.

I don't know why they get mad about it - ask them.

But don't let them stop you from reading. That's a great habit and it will serve you well all your life. You can go anywhere in the universe with a book and your imagination.

i can't stand to read probably out of sheer laziness. It's so much easier to rent movies or just use your imagination. And I have so many other things to do than read. But I do commend you for reading. I press my 5 year old to read every day even though I don't.

I like reading, but there are so few books that are worth my time... I read the Bible.

But other people don't like reading today is because their intellect is so dull, that reading is too hard of a task for them. They prefer watching stupid TV Shows.

same here i like to read also. what i do is ignore their remarks. later in life u will be more intelligent because as they say, reading builds knowledge. then they will be the ones made fun of. just dont overdue the remarks u make to them, or they may dislike u.

Because there isn't any pretty colors or flashing lights in books. I think t.v. may be to blame. A lot of people are into instant gratification and books just don't provide it. Its a shame, really.
