I am currently downloading The Spongebob SQ movie, it has a MPG extention, and I want to ask, is there any risk of virus and is downloading MPG movies more of a threat than regular files, like MP3 etc?

Thanks for the help, I terminated the program and successfully uninstalled it, I rather pocket 20 bucks and buy it instead of the 100s I would be potentially spending on computer repair.

Limewire itself is nothing but a file-sharing service. As such it has no viruses or other stuff like that. The files, however, are all shared out by other users. That is, complete and total strangers. I've downloaded stuff from there and found viruses, worms, etc.
Both MPG and MP3 have the ability to have embedded content. Unfortunately the spec does not restrict just what that embedded content can consist of; it's supposed to be related stuff (like an MP3 launching a video, or a movie launching another movie, stuff like that) but it can be anything.
So, yeah, there's still a risk. Keep your AV software current and remember that there is always a window of opportunity for a virus to attack between the time it is introduced and the AV companies get time to update their sig files to address it.

if you are downloading a 2 hour movie and it takes 5 min to download, it's a virus. First check the size of the file before you check the extension. If the file size looks ok, then you're ok.
If the size of a movie looks like 1,680 K, then it's a virus.
I've had Limewire for about six months.
No problems, not ever, but that could be 'cos I'm smart

Never download movies on Limewire. Not only is it unreliable, its sluggish and who knows, a hacker could hide the fact that the Sponge Bob SQ Movie is acctully a way just to get into ur computer. If ur looking to download movies try BitTorrent at www.torrentspy.com and search for the movies. Be careful with what you download because you never know what people have out there. I hope this helps

I don't know for sure, but I think there is. We didn't have any problems with our computer before using Limewire. Since we downloaded it and have used it, we've gotten a bunch of viruses and can't use the computer anymore.

Just installing programs like Limewire and Kazaa automatically authorizes them to install adware, data miners and tracking software to your computer. Read the fine print.
If you try to uninstal either Limewire and Kazaa you will not get all of the elements of either off of your computer without re-installing Windows.

yes, when you get it, everytime you try to compeltely close out limewire, it pops right back up and starts again as if it has a mind of its own. Even if you uninstall it and reinstalls it, it won't fix it. You have to purge your computer from a manufacturer
