Hey, at least you get him off our hands. Hallelujah! Eddie is out of Toronto for good. Hello Raycroft!
Eddie is about the only goalie out there that is left. They wont resign Legace, which leaves a lot of second tiered goalies. Besides, Eddie reportedly is going to have a back-up role to Osgood, so that should make you feel a bit better.

What's with all the Eddie bashing!!!
There sure are some stupid comments here about him being a bad goalie. Ummm, he's had winning totals in the mid 30's almost EVERY year of his career and a save % comfortably over 90%, including his last full season with the Leaf's where he had a league-leading 10 shutouts!!. And he happens to be the second winningest goalie of ALL-TIME! So get you info correct people. He may be nearing the end of his career and may have back problems, but he is not washed up by any means. Goalies mature much later than forwards and his temper has calmed down a lot in the last 5 years or so, which is why I think he's playing his best hockey now.
I realize a lot of you are detroit fans, so I understand the lack of intelligence (sorry, mandatory detroit bashing required by all Blackhawks fans), but learn your topic before you start sharing your wisdom with the world.
If nothing else, you should be happy to have his experience in the locker room to teach the younger guys. Personally, I'd rather see him retire than put on a freakin' wings sweater!

This is probably the dummest move detroit could do considering that ed belfour is 41 years old and just had back surgery. This will probably be his last season. Yes Ed Belfour was a good goalie back in the day of dallas but the last few seasons has surely not been his best and his carrer is winding to a close.

For the life of me I can't figure out Ken Holland's thinking on this one! Belfour had a terrible year and is way over the hill if they want an old goalie I would have gone after Hasek again but he is not the answer either. If they are not going to resign Legace and that is apparent I would work out a trade for Martin Biron from Buffalo. He is a lot younger has experience and available in a trade!

Considering they got Osgood coming back, having Belfour in there as well does seem a little odd, unless they don't have designs on continuing their relationship with Legace. But even so, with the speed of the game only getting faster, having "The Eagle" at the Joe Louis doesn't seem like the best move for the Red Wings goaltending situation.

THANK YOU! i fricken hate belfour. assuming that he can even play this season because of his surgery (still waiting for the results of the physical which was either yester or today) they would only have him for like a year and then he would retire. now that stevie is gone, they need to start building a team of guys who are maybe a little younger and are going to be here for more than a few years, and goalie would be a good place to start. there is so much young talent that is being ignored.

they can't be serious about signing another old fogey. belfour is washed up. it would not help an aging team like detroit to sign a goalie past his prime. the problem is not goaltending in detroit but the lack of motivation by the top players datsyuk and zetterberg. they gelled too early and just fell apart. i got over the fact that they are in the twilight years of a good decade of good teams. i agree that he needs to retire like some of the classier players did. they need a younger goalie like gerber or giggy. the fans run goalies out of detroit. it is the 2nd toughest position to play here in detroit besides the quaterback for the lions. the fans did not give manny a chance to defend himself for the loss. the wings just need to rebuild.

I think the stupider move was re-signing Osgood. He is the worst goalie ever!!!! I guess I counted my blessings too early the first time he left. They should have kept Legace and gotten rid of Osgood. And if they wanted Belfour, he could be a good number 2.

Hasek did win a Stanley cup with Detroit red wings and yes Eddie belfour is way to old and hasn't played well the last 5 years and it was funny to see the maple leafs sign that old fart cause the leafs are **** period.

I agree. As a Wings fan, I don't want to see this and agree it wasn't Legace's fault they got bounced by the Oilers. Belfour needs to retire. He's been embarrassing himself the last few years. Hang up the skates dude!
