Hi everyone,
i am 19 weeks pregnant and had my amnio last week. i am feeling cramping in my vaginal area and also some pain in my lower abdomen (almost feels like some pressure). i am really scared of the miscarriage risk after amnio and want to know if any of you went through it. This is my first pregnancy and i havent felt the baby move yet.

Minor cramping near the site of needle insertion within the first few days after an amnio may be normal, but after one week, the likelihood of amnio-related complications is very low. Typically adverse effects related to your amnio will happen within the first 2-3 days. You are already out of this window of time. If your cramping persists, get into bed and call your OB. Good luck with your amnio results!

The risk of miscarriage from the amnio is no longer an issue. The reason it can sometimes cause miscarriage is because the hole in the bag of waters doesn't seal itself back up and fluid continues to leak. The cramping is most likely just ligaments stretching for your growing baby.

The risk of miscarriage from amniocentesis is less than 1/2%. Reactions to the procedure can include mild, menstrual-like cramping, and in some cases there may be a little vaginal bleeding or leaking of amniotic fluid. Report all symptoms to your practitioner, however.

This is normal. You only need to worry if there is bleeding associated with the pain. You can also put a call in to your doctor if you like to comfort any concerns. Have a glass of water and relax for a bit.

Yes, some cramping is normal. If you are spotting heavy or the cramping gets worse I would call the doctor right away...

CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!!! i had an amino with my last child, the doctor told me i MAY experience mild cramping and it was normal. she told me to stay in bed for 24 hours after the amino to avoid miscarriage. i had no cramping whatsoever!!!
