Based on what I've read on several Web sites it sounds very exciting and promising. I think being able to use lasers to combust highly energetic fuels and propel air/ spacecraft into space or across the planet in a few minutes time is, indeed, intriguing. They also speak of antimatter and other seemingly unreal subjects. I think it's a great thing to explore these possibilities, but I have to question the practicality, achievability, and attainability of such proposals. Concerning your question of "is this the future", perhaps, but not in our lifetimes for sure.
