shower depending on how long it is

It depends quite a bit on how long of a shower you take, but in general, baths use far less water than showers. Next time you are in the shower, try stopping the drain and seeing how often you have to drain the tub before your normal course of showering is over.

A shower. A bath takes over 50 gallons of water.

Shower

The answer is, it depends on your showerhead and how long you take to shower, but usually the shower will take less water.

"If your home was built before 1992, chances are your showerheads put out about five gallons of water per minute (gpm). Multiply this by the number of minutes you're in the shower, and the water adds up fast!

An average bath requires 30-50 gallons of water. The average shower of four minutes with an old shower head uses 20 gallons of water. With a low-flow shower head, only 10 gallons of water is used."

Try This:
1. Fill your bathtub to take a bath the way you normally do.
2. Measure the depth of the water and write it down.
Be sure there are no items in the water when you measure.
3. Another day, close the bathtub drain and take a shower
the way you normally do.
4. When you’re done, turn off the water and measure
the depth of the water. Write it down on your chart.
Be sure there are no items in the water when you measure,
and take your measurement at the same location in the
bathtub as your previous measurement.
5. Compare the results.
Which used more water, a bath or shower?

Depends how long you are in the shower! Showers should take much less water.

well if you take a shower, plug the drain and fill the bathtub... let's say that takes 45min, well if you take an hour long bath, you used less in an hour bath, than in an hour shower.

A shower. You can really save water by turning it off when lathering up. Just remember where you had the valve set and pop it back on when you want to rinse off. This will really save HOT water, which is very expensive to heat.
