Well I know you said women or girls, so you can disregard this answer if you like. You should always at least shave the sides a little so no hair sticks out like a bikini line if you like. I know many many women though that shave is all or alot of it. It depends on how much you like hair. I hate it, most of us do, just shave it off.
Oh yea, make sure to use lotion afterward, they acutally make lotion that slows hair growth. I know Aveeno and Jergens make it and it works too so you don't have to shave as often. Give it a couple weeks to start working though

Yours is a style rather than a medical question, so I won't suggest a doctor. The only times I have been shaved have been for surgery and then it itches horribly when it grows back. When I have been in gym communal shower rooms, it has appeared that most or all of the women have most of their pubic hair. The ones who wear bikinis shave off just enough hair so that it doesn't show for the summer.

Waxing hurts, or so I have been told, but it last longer. Ingrown hairs are common though. I shave it, but razor burn is a problem. Just keep it trimmed short with sissors. Dont cut anything thats not hair though.

I have used Nair or similar product but for long lasting hair removal, I've been getting waxed about once a month since spring. I have a friend who buys the stuff and does it to herself but I'd rather not.

Shave. Be careful, sweetpea! Just start trimming around the edges. If you've never removed your hair down there before, trim it with scissors first before you take a razor to it. You can get an electric pube trimmer- those microtouch razors you see in walmart, target, etc. Just be careful.
