It doesn't literally "rot your brain," although watching too much will certainly diminish your intellectual capacity, and some of the things offered on t.v. these days may deplete your morals.

Yes, If you have an old one and sit too close to it, then the radiation can damage your brain.

What you are probably thinking about though, and what your parents are thinking of, is what happens when you just sit in front of the TV and let it hypnotize you. What good is it watching old sitcoms, do you learn anything from them? Also TV watching is a very passive activity, and people can get fat just sitting there, instead of exercising or just doing something.

TV can entertain you and teach you a few things, if you watch something educational. But, if you sit and vegetate in front of it all day you get used to the predigested pap. You don't have any original thoughts, you aren't doing anything constructive or creative. If you do that then yes your brain "rots." The brain is a muscle and if you don't exercise it then you lose its full abilities.

absolutely not. tv can actually enhance your intelligence if you watch intelligent shows. but even if you were to watch a bunch of crap all the time its not going to "rot your brain". thats such an old saying and it needs to die. id think most cases of people saying that are moms to their kids who want to get them out of the house and do something else for a while. otherwise.. i mean come on.. are you serious.. as i said above.. that is the reality of your question. tv does not rot your brain.
