The government should not go out of its wy to endorse a state religion. The basic seperation of church and state principle is valid. Though its not in the constitution contrary to many a liberal belief. But the government was founded on Christian values, there is no reason, for them to avoid it at all costs like they have been forced to do.
And this is coming from an atheist.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
It doesn't say no mangers at Christmas no Menorahs no Crescent during holidays in parks owned by the government
I does say the government cannot establish a religion.
This is the first amendment because they just broke away from Britain and a state religion. They we persecuted for practicing their religion.
Now religions a persecuted again buy the state sponsored atheist it has become a belief system and is a religion . One of the person filling the most suits calls himself Reverend and has a tax exempt church of atheist.
People talk about the first part and forget about the Free exercise of religion.

I believe religious people and principles could be part of our government. That doesn't mean I want the government to force anybody into going to church or what have you. Despite the fact that many people don't want to believe it, this country was founded upon Christian principles by mostly Christian people. In fact, until the 1960s America could have been considered a very Christian nation. We've obviously changed a lot since then - mostly for the worse.

NO! Religion should be no part of the Western government. Could you imagine this place if it were completely run by fundamentalist Christians. It would be just as bad as Iran or Saudi Arabia. Separation of Church and State are one of the most important things about this country.

I don't believe in religion in government, simply because if your religion was the minority your rights could be dissipated instantly. Look at all the countries in the world with internal problems solely based upon religious fractions and split groups. Overall our Founding Fathers were wise by separating religion from the government.

Absolutely not. This country was founded on freedom of religion, and that means having a right to choose how to worship. Passing laws based on religious concepts, as the current administration likes to do, infringes on that freedom and comes much too close to state-imposed religion, which is one of the characteristics of a totalitarian state.
