yes. it is designed to be highly absorbant. Be careful not to leave it in place more than 3-4 hours because Rely brand caused many cases of Toxic Shock which led to deaths in the 1980's due to its ability to be super absorbant and leak proof.

Yes just like a wet towel is heavier than a dry one. Same idea, absorbancy of liquid will increase size and/or weight of the object used to absorb the liquid.

well it will expand thats why they are tampons to absorb and of coarse when something is obsorbing a liquid it will expand

not much larger... you actually don'y bleed "that much" when you have your period. in the beginning of the period your flow will probably be heavier than in the end. but everyone is different. :o)
