The short answer is no. The long answer is that the wet tampon will be swollen and possibly fill the cavity and plug up the flow of blood better. On the other hand, a wet tampon does not absorb anything either. My experience swimming during my period is that the weightlessness significantly slows the flow. I would say if you're having a heavy day, a tampon could do more harm than good. If your menstral blood stays in too long you could have some pretty bad cramps, clots and other more serious medical issues.

No, but the water wont become all icky with blood. It may feel like it has stopped but actually the tampon is just absorbing the blood
P.S. Be sure to tuck that string in

No it won't stop, nor will your tampon absorb the water. But you may not feel very comfortable swimming if you have cramps or bloating.

Your period can't just "stop" any way other than naturally. Your lining is still shedding. Whether or not there is evident blood is another story. The water may dilute the blood so it appears that your period is getting lighter.

the water will swell the tampon inside you, if it is a fairly new tampon you shouldn't have to worry about anything leaking out . :o)

No, it won't. It's so wonderful that we have these tampons, isn't it? I used to hate them but now I've learned to use them and I wouldn't do with out them!
