Okay, so superman is only to chunks of kryptonite, the left overs of his home planet after it exploded. Okay, got it. So Superman comes to earth and has all these powers that he didn't have on krypton, but when ever he comes into contact or within a cose vicinity of kryptonite he loses his powers and has all the characteristics of a person who is dying. In fact, enough kryptonite can kill him, as I've heard and understand from the comics and movies and such. My question, if Superman can be killed by a little hunk of kryptonite, then how would he have lived on krypton like his parents? How would ANY of them been alive, if they all share the same geentics and such, wouldn't they all be affected by kryptonite the same and have been killed, being that they lived on a MASSIVE hunk of kryptonite? This has been bugging me, thanks!

I don't have any proof of this, just kinda thought it through a little.
Superman's powers come from the yellow sun of earth. The planet Krypton's sun was a red star.
People on Krypton didn't all have superpowers. Superman became Superman when he got to earth and started absorping the light from the yellow sun. If you somehow simulated a red sun on earth (I think a couple villians tried this out) that would take away superman's powers too.
Kryptonite must somehow counteract the effects of the yellow sun. Since the Kryptonians weren't all jazzed up on yellow sun, their planet, made of kryptonite, didn't effect them.
Also if you read the comics, apparently at this time, superman has been on earth for long enough to have absorbed enough yellow sunlight that Kryptonite no longer effects him.

While it's hard to decypher the logic of comic book heroes, there are some bits of info that can shed some light.

#1 Superman has powers here on Earth because of the "supposed" difference of the radiation produced by the rays of our yellow sun. Krypton has a red sun. The gravity on Earth is also different from that of Krypton, which changes the density of his muscles and bones.

#2 The same information above makes kryptonite lethal on earth. While on Krypton, Superman is a normal person and the rocks there that have not come into contact with our sun are like normal rocks.

While this alone is full of scientific holes, it explains it in the comic books.

Hope that helps

Superman did not have his powers on Krypton because there was no yellow sun.
Krypton particles became radioactive after the planet exploded.
Even in space, Superman is allergic to Krypton but I am not sure if the yellow sun gives Kryptonite the radioactivity like it gives Superman his powers.

Good question.

Oops, found it. Green Kryptonite got the radiation from the planet's explosion. Other forms were effected by different conditions listed in the website below.

Because just as Superman had no powers on Krypton,....kryptonite had no effect on a Kryptonian either. Both Superman and Kryptonite are affected by Earths yellow sun and different gravitational pull.

Go to www.howstuffworks.com and type in Kryptonite and you will see the actual scientific explanation.

Your answer is simple first of the Kryptonite has been called "radioactive" that would be one explanation. The other is even simpler. The effects of our yellow sun effected Kryptonite much like it effected Superman. In case it made his home planet (its leftovers) deadly to The Man of Steel

COME ON - think about it. As a resident of Krypton, Kal-El was not under the influence of a yellow sun. Supposedly, that is what gave him hiss 'super' powers. Only since he's on Earth and under the yellow sun, is he 'allergic' to kryptonite.

The way the original story put it, the "rock" of the original planet was "transformed" when the planet exploded.

Later, buffs say that the planet never exploded and there was a "biological" event that killed the life. I am not sure how they explained all of the kryptonite around in this second scenario.

because on krypton he lived under a red sun, on earth as you know we have a yellow sun, which causes kriptonite to become deadly to anyone from krypton.

I believe it's because the planet Kypton was comtaminated by what ever destroyed it not that the planet it's self was deadly.
