(The one located in front of the Lincoln Memorial) Is it man-made or natural? Why is it deemed the "reflection pond" rather than just a regular pond, most all water casts a reflection, whats special about it, if anything? Is it supposed to be inspirational or something?

LOL @ the Edward Kennedy reference.

The Reflecting Pool is called that for two reasons. "Ponds" are essentially small bowls full of water, "Lakes" are larger bowls. They are shallower at the edges than in the middle. "Reflecting Pools" have flat bottoms. They are uniformly deep all the way across. The DC Reflecting Pool is man-made. It was designed and installed to be a place to go to think over heavy, far-reaching decisions, affecting millions of Americans' lives. It's a place to calmly 'reflect' on where a person stands on some issue.

One thing that you might want to check out is the website on washington dc it might help it will also give alot of history regarding everything on the dc area, I am not sure if you have ever paid a visit to dc but if you look closely at the washington monument it is 2 different colors you see before the civil war started they started to build the monument and then the war started and they stopped half way through until way after the war and till this day it is two diffrent colors. as to the reflecring pool you will have to come to dc to have a look at it for yourself, word to the wise though do not go in the water, it is really gross and you might get arrested by the park police.
