Its to do with them having different social cues. A cat will stare but a dog would take that as agrressive. A dog getting wound up to play with his waggy tail etc would make the cat think it's in danger and run away. When the dog and cat have climitised with each other they get on very well. But back to your question, my cat eats my dogs food and the dog doesn't like that at all!

cat's and dogs aren't always enemies. if you raise them together they can be best of friends. i have had cats and dogs most of my life and the ones we raised together always got along. if we raise the dogs out side away from the cats they went wild when they saw them for the first time. most of the time though it was because they saw the cats as a play thing for themselves. the cats would hiss at the dogs because they are scared of them, not because they hate them.

They're not all enemies. My dogs love my cat and vice/versa. They sleep right up next to eachother, play together and eat practically side by side. No problem.
I think some people taunt their dogs and expect them to react that way or purposely say things like "sick em!"..and try to get a rise out of them.

Not always the case. My cat and two dogs get along great, they actually play with each other.

Because they are different species, like two different carnivores.But there are dogs and cats that are living together like friends or even like a family.

no.. my dog is usually friends with all the cats.. but if it is an unknown cat he beats it up.. which is usually good... i think they just need to trust each other to get along

They aren't. Dogs just think that cats are thier personal squeak toys. I believe that they can co-habitate.
