Well, if you're looking for yet another reason to slam the US, there's probably no real point in answering this question.
Be that as it may, if you look at the statistics, the 3 worst teams were Serbia and Montenegro, Togo, and Costa Rica. These were the only 3 teams to emerge from group play with zero points, and in that order due to goal differential - S&M at -8, Togo at -7, and Costa Rica at -6. Of those 3, Costa Rica probably had the "easiest" group, but that's not exactly scientific.
I actually thought this was a pretty even WC - shows that the overall playing field is getting more and more even, which is good.
There is no real logical reason to select the US as the worst team in the WC, though apparently plenty of emotional reasons.
Though truly in a tough group, I think Cote d'Ivoire underperformed worse than the US.
By the way, USA did score a "real" goal against Ghana. If you're to talk smack, at least try to do it about real failings.

I say you are damn close but Saudi Arabia is horrible too. I know it is the world cup and all but come on now at the expense of great football nations like Uruguay, Turkey, Russia, Ireland these horrible teams get to play in for the sake of equal distribution.
By the way: Americans:
You did not get screwed by refs. If anything in the Italy game the refs helped the US, there was nothing unjustified. Against Ghana I agree the PK was a bad call but learn how to score for gods sake. Take the penalty away you are still inlast place with 2 points.
ANd to JT. US only managed one single goal in 270 minutes of football. And your media is the one that hyped all of you making you believe that you had a great team. What was that didnt the worst player on your squad (Landon Donovan) say "We came here to win it all. We do not even imagine anythign else" Well that is falling a bit short of promises and expectations. The teams you mentioned came to score a goal, maybe get a point. You came to win and go home with one goal.

USA did suck but I thought they did a really good job holding their heads up and playing with only 9 players. I don't know, all in all they have never been a competing team for the title so I never expect much from the men. The women on the other hand would kill the guys!! :)

At least USA made a draw with one of the teams who got through to the final, Italy.. I think it was Serbia and Montenegro... lost 3 matches and had very bad performance

USA... They didnt score one goal.. And the goal on Italy the Italian player kicked it in the goal by mistake...
