A filtered tank is always best. The smaller the tank or bowl is the more work you will have to put into upkeep. Guppies are pretty tolerant though, and if you have no other tank it can work. With no filter you will have to clean the water a LOT. A small air stone would be helpful too. Beware of keeping bettas with guppies in a small tank, bettas sometimes nip at long finned fish- the small bowl will make this behavior more likely.Good luck.

Guppies +betta= dead guppy. A bowl is great for limiting oxygen, building up waste, being small, and having no way to deal with waste. guppies need no huge tanks, but will appreciate one at least 15 gals

A betta will most of the time see the guppy as another betta because of its huge tail, and kill

With females there is less risk though, and guppies like to be in groups of 1 male to 2 or more femals

Guppies do not have to have a big tank, and not necessarily filtered water, but they do need well aerated water.

Along with the Gouramis, Bettas possess an auxiliary breathing apparatus (the labyrinth) that aids them in aerial respiration, so they do not need constantly aerated water for them to survive. They can take it directly from the surface. Guppies do not have this, and will effectively suffocate if left in an un-aerated bowl.

If you can somehow aerate the water by putting a bubble stone or something similar in the bowl, you should be fine.

Hey, I used to feed guppies for years. They are so energetic all the time. U can put them into bowls if they have enough room to swim. But be sure U only put a few fish in one bowl, otherwise they run out of oxygen. It's fun looking at them in all the ways. They'll always be happy if Ur are good to them. But in the tank, they can play with their images reflect on the glass wall of the tank. They think there is another fish just like them in the wall.

guppies really don't have a long life span. most of them can live in a small 1 gallon tank with an air filter. you can pick one of those up for about $15. I did it, and i've had fish ever since. I have moved up to sharks in a 10 gal tank. well worth the money and the time. they live for years.

guppies will not survive in just a bowl of water...trust me...i tried it.

Guppies can live in a bowl , but you have to meet some requirments. You need gravel, a live plant,( anachris),get at the pet shop, a small snail. ---I have had fem guppies live in a tank with guppies but in a bowl I think the fem. bettas will attack the guppy.

All fish will be healthier, happier and live longer in a tank with a filter, even the bettas.
