There is hope, don't give up.

Yes, you can find worthwhile work, you just have to look hard, and be patient.

As far as the neighborhood you live in, if you don't want to work around there, the no car thing could be a problem. Is there public transportation in your area? A good thing to do would be to take the bus, or light rail, if it's available, and go to a place where you think it looks promising as far as applying for a job. That way, you can take the bus to work. You may have to work at a job not at the top of your list, in order to get a car to travel further to a better job.

Be patient, think logically, try hard, and you will be rewarded.

Good luck.

Stevo.

There are a couple of ways out. Move to somewhere where there are decent opportunities.
Join up -- Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines. You learn a trade, and get experience. Plus assistance in finding a job when you get out.
Volunteer -- volunteerism is a great way to get experience, which in turn helps on your resume.
Take an apprenticeship. Tradesmen are in HUGE demand right now. Sign on as an apprentice and you've got a ticket to a great future. Apprenticeships are earn while you learn. Not great wages, but a good future.
Don't have a car doesn't mean a thing. There are buses in every city.
Hope one of these suggestions works for you.

You have to start at the bottom, unfortunately. Even those of us with a high school diploma and a car had to. Start in fast food, and if you learn and are dependable, you'll move up, then you can work retail with that experience, and so forth.

Get whatever student aid you can to get certifications and college credit.

Sometimes there is backbreaking manual labor you can do with little or no experience, like hauling stuff around a construction site or mowing lawns.

There are no quick answers. But the earlier you start, the earlier you'll get there! Good luck!

Take an accounting course in votech it is free
Bookkeeping by computer or accounting by computer pays great.
Live in an area with public transportation.
Not an option
Get a bike, rode for a year before savings enough for a down payment on a car. Computers are everywhere but people who know how to use them are not. Take a computer class the one on bookkeeping is the easiest and pays the best.

find the most acceptable place within walking distance, then a list of five others in case that first one doesn't work out. put in a new application every week and bug the piss out of 'em. learn about the job as much as you can. volunteer to do crap detail around the bussiness of your interest to show them you're interested. two things a worthy boss wants to know: 1)that you're going to be there, 2)that you are trainable.

if all that doesnt work , then move to a town that's having an industrial boom.

good luck kiddo

You have to start at the bottom and work your way up. I've decided to avoid that, and I got a job as soon as I turned 16, which was a few weeks ago. I'm at the very bottom but hey every 6 months I get a raise lol

You just have to keep on trying! If you work hard at whatever you do, it will take you far. No one got rich or educated over night. You could try (I don't know if you'd like it) a telemarketing firm. Their starting pay is usually pretty decent and they have advancement opportunities. Or on the other hand, damn the man! Why don't you consider being your own boss?! Good luck!

Get in touch with Vocational Rehabilatation -- usually it's through each state's Division of Social Services -- they will even help pay for travelling to get you to their office in some states. Voc Rehab will test you to set you up in a job that matches your skills and talents. If you choose, they will even pay for your college expenses if you decide you want to go back to school. Hope this helps.
