Do you have to fill out forms or something?

Yes, you have to fill out a lot of forms. Obviously, you can't go from the US, but you could go from say, Cuba. After you get into Cuba, you'll need to declare yourself as a communist using form ISTA - PS17. It takes about 4 months to get processed (hey, its communism after all). In that time, get ALL your shots and book your ticket (NKAL flies there twice a month). If you are approved as a communist, then you need to apply for a travel visa at the North Korean consulate. I'm not sure of the exact name of the form, but it should say something like 이주 모양 or 여행 모양 or something like that.

If you get approve for that, you're pretty much on your way. But make sure you don't EVER identify yourself as an American, or they will strap you to a Taedong II rocket and misfire you into the Sea of Japan.

Good luck!!! :)

ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: North Korean visas are required for entry. The U.S. Government does not issue letters to private Americans seeking North Korean visas, even though in the past such letters have sometimes been requested by DPRK Embassies. As most travelers enter North Korea from China, prospective travelers must also obtain a two-entry visa for China. A valid Chinese visa is essential for departing from North Korea at the conclusion of a visit or in an emergency. While the Republic of Korea government is attempting to open direct travel routes to the DPRK, routine travel from the Republic of Korea to the DPRK is currently prohibited. Travel across the demilitarized zone is allowed only infrequently for official and government-authorized cultural and economic exchanges. There are no regularly operating direct commercial flights from South to North Korea at this time. U.S. citizens who arrive in North Korea without a valid U.S. passport and North Korean visa may be detained, arrested, fined or denied entry. Individuals traveling to North Korea report that fees for local travel costs (taxi, tolls, permits and the cost for security personnel assigned to escort foreigner visitors) can be high and arbitrary.

Where to obtain a North Korean visa: There is no DPRK embassy in the United States. U.S. citizens and residents planning travel to North Korea must obtain DPRK visas in third countries. For information about entry requirements and restricted areas, contact the DPRK Mission to the United Nations in New York. Address inquiries to:

I don't think that will even do it. I heard on the news that their crazy ruler doesn't even let them have any contact with outside influences including TV or newspaper... can't see them just letting you in if you fill out a form. But it does bring up an interesting point.... do you think that in some ways America does the same thing to us with government secretly editing what news we actually hear? Maybe the North Koreans don't even know they are being sensored! SCARY!
