Point a gun in his mouth.
That'll shock him.

1: Does he already have friends? At work? Gym? Neighbors? If the answer is no to all questions then it's time to start getting to know your neighbors. Since it's summer going for walks in the morning or in the evening is a good way to get in shape and get to meet people who are also walking. A quick hello to passersby is good. If they have pets it's a way to speak to people longer- as long as the pets are nice and friendly-- thenyou can make small talk introduce yourself and you dad and slowly make friends in this way. If he's part of a gym, look and see what kinds of classes they offer, sometimes you can meet people there as well. Also, go to a nice restaurant or a local bar and watch some games, this way he can also meet some people that way. If you are new in the neighborhood, make some cookies or brownies- nut free- and take them to a few neghbors that seem friendly and let them know your name and your dad's name and where you guys live. If any neighbors invite you over - go! If the neighbor is outside and not too busy chat with them.
If you personally already have some friends then your dad should meet them as well- I mean their parents, this way they can also hang out at some point for a guys night out or a parents night out or when you kids all get together. That may seem weird at first to you, but if your friends parents know other sinlge people they may introduce or invite them over. If you have a friends parent that you trust you can let them know what's happening too and they may offer other suggestions. Also talking to the same cahsiers at the grocery store is a nce way to meet other people too... If your dad is a recovering addict of any sort he may be shy to make friends because he may not know where they are coming from. If he is shy, help him out by starting the conversation with the neighbors and then bing up something you think they may be able to talk about- like the FIFA match that's coming up this Sunday!!!
:) Good luck...

Is he single? Singles groups at churches are always a good way to make friends and do fun things. Enroll him in a class to learn something he's interested in -- maybe he'll meet other people who share the same interests.

Find out his hobby and get him involved with others that share the same hobby. You can find similar groups pretty easy on the web.
Recently NBC Nightly News has reported that more and more Americans have fewer friends. With men a lot of who they are is wrapped up in their job, try and get him past that.

You can't. You have no controll over what your dad does. All you can do is let him know you are concerned, and think he needs more friends.

Don't. It isn't your job to make friends for your dad or make him have friends. He has to do the effort himself.
