It is an ok place to get first ideas but a bad place to use for your papers. As a teacher I tend to count off when students use this as a citation in their paper. The information can be modified by anyone. This means they may not have all the facts.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you just want a quick reference to settle a debate with a friend or to look up something you forgot (like when the Civil War started), it's fine. If, however, you're wanting to use it for a research paper or something, skip it. ANYONE can alter the entries, so it tends to make it an unreliable source because of it. My husband did it one day just to see if he could, and sure enough, the changes were made immediately (being the good boy he is, he fixed it).

No, wikipedia wouldn't have to be biased in any way since people like me give it money just for being perfectly balanced and informational (hence the ORG siting). Use it all you like, or love for that matter. I support them all the way.

For most topics it will usually prove accurate. For more recent topics, and heavily debated topics you will likely get some biased data.

Basic guideline, that should apply to any research, never use one source for your data. Always double check your information, and use common sense.

It can. Articles can also be changed easily. Try to use Wikipedia as a last resource.
