It really is not necessary to go to school. If you are going to pay that much money, you might as well go to school for something that'll be worth the money. Administrative Asstistants don't need schooling, they just need experience.

I have been an administrative assistant for 3 years. If you enjoy helping other people in a office setting, then you should do well.
You need to make sure that you have good computer and decent typing skills, and willing to step up and take on any challange that is presented to you.

It's quite boring at times, you need to have excellent typing and computer skills, your work needs to be accurate, you need to know how to make tea and coffee and how to butter up the bosses, once you've got all that off pat, you'll be well on your way!
