Free speech is by nature, offensive. That's why laws are in place to protect it. Why would you need laws if it weren't? Political correctness exists to prevent certain types of people from having to hear the truth spoken about them.

Political Correctness is at it's core censorship, pure and simple. In an effort not to offend people, you make certain phrases, and certain thoughts forbidden. The outgrowth of that are the new "hate crime" laws. isn't bad enough that a person gets beaten and /or murdered that we have to punish the person for what they were thinking when they committed the crime? Why is it worse when a person gets beaten for being gay, for example, then when a person gets beaten for wearing tacky clothes? One beating is no worse than the other. We all hate bias in society; but, making one crime worse than the other because of what the offender was thinking at the time is a dangerous path to go down. Very soon we'll have extra punishments for either Republican or Democrat offenders, depending on who's in power.
