Political Correctness is the concept that speech should not offend its listeners. However, challenges to any concept, ideology, moral, or view often cause offense. Offense is usually a matter of position and opionion. Even diplomacy varies from mind to mind. Offense is often necessary for progress.

To enforce Political Correctness is to forbid opposing opinions. To forbid oppossing opions is to dictate speech. To dictate speech is to dictate society. To dictate society is to strive against Democracy.

Is not Political Correctness, really, Political Control?

WBrian_28, respectable counter. However, was not their insult an exercise of free speech? Was not your complaint a further exercise of free speech? Therefore, let us have speech, and let us debate.

Its a jargon that hides the underlying truth, a linguistic "sleigh of the tongue" to cover up double talk, semantics of contradictions.

You make a great point.

May I counter?

Political correctness should never be enforced by a government. However, government employees should play by different rules. I have turned people in who worked at the BMV for mistreating Hispanic customers. Do they have to like Latinos? No. Do they have the right to keep their job for clearly treating people of different backgrounds differently? No, again.

I strongly support free speech, even for those I find despicable. But don't expect me to respect you if you continually use disrepectful language.

It is actually an Orwellian term, doubelspeak, to justify a Right wing attack on people targeted because of thier left-wing politics and thier defense of true academic freedom--something that right-wingers likeBill O’Reilly are determined to squelch.

Quit watching that **** there is a real world out there son...

To be politically correct you have to pretty much not offend a religion or a group of people. Well, that is pretty much a good reason ultra-tolerance survives.
