I know I'm going to get slated for asking...... Yes, women wear trousers and dark colours, but I'd like a polite "debate" on what makes a man wear pink, primrose etc. coloured shirts. Do their women buy them or do they actually buy them themselves?

Thank you so much for the flood of superb answers. Funnily enough, some of the most unkind, mean men I've met in business have worn a pink shirt. Usually older guys too. Grey hair, pink shirt. They make me very wary.....
I much prefer a snow white shirt with a good tie - whatever colour you like. Now that is sexy.

Pink shirts look cheezy on guys, and you know they have a pair of stiletto's somewhere.

Why not? there's no rule to say a man can't wear pink, and of course going on some of the comments to this answer, you have to be Gay to where pink, what a load of rubbish, those answers just go to show the backward people there are about, so does that mean if a woman wears a white shirt, and it's a shirt, not a blouse does that mean she is Gay.
If you feel good wearing any coloured shirt or what ever go for it, and why on earth do you think that it takes a woman to buy them, after all this is the 21st century.
Did you know that Lot's of men wear tights, why because when they are working in places such as building sites they help keep them warm, don't mean their Gay, just warm.
I like pink, and when i was younger i had a pink shirt, because it was the fashion then, and if i wanted another one i would have no fear in buying one,

Pink is the new Black. Pink draws attraction, If you have a tan it makes your tan look even better. Women find it attractive when a guy has the Kahona's to wear pink. However there are rules for guy's wanting to where Pink.
1) It must be a dress shirt long sleeve. (not a t-shirt or sweater cause that is GAY!. (A short sleeve dress shirt is border gay)
2) YOU can in no way shape or form wear pink socks! That too is GAY.
3) If you wear a long sleeve Pink dress shirt with Pink socks You again are GAY.

I think it's just a matter of fashion. Back in the 1980's when Miami Vice was on men were wearing pastel colors because it was the "cool" thing to do.
I know I should be enlightened and color should be gender neutral but I really don't think a man looks right in pink. It's a color that is so associated with girls and girly things that I find it hard to accept on a guy. I don't know why blue for a girl doesn't give me the same reaction. Weird.

Why do women wear black? If you knew that was going to be a response, isn't that the answer? A lot of women do pick out the guy's clothes, and some pick them out themselves. A man wearing pink doesn't make him a femmie, how a guy acts is what determines that, no matter what color he wears. Some guys look good in pink, some don't. Some women look good in blue, some don't. Everybody has colors that suit them better than others. :0)

I actually like it. The color actually looks great on a lot of skin tones. A color shouldn't define a person ever. There are plenty of women with short hair cuts wearing navy blue suits that look amazing. Now the reason why people don't like to see men in pink is generally because they are homophobic. People who don't like to see men in pink is because they believe it is a girls color and men should be manly not at all feminine. It is great to see a man in pink. It shows that they aren't afraid to like something no matter what other people think or say about it. I love that in a man. Unfortunately my husband still won't wear pink.

I look good in a pink shirt. Not like a salmon or a magenta, more of a pastel.
I bought them myself.
I hope you aren't going to get on your high horse and proclaim that if a man wear pink he's a bit "light in the loafers".
I think purple and its associated colors need the proper complexion altogether. Even women can't pull that off all the time.

It depends on culture - in some cultures loud, bright "feminine" colors are not off limits to males. Some South East Asians (for example) will go for loud colors and even styles that seem effeminate.
In the West - it's mostly about following trends and wanting a different look, after all, men don't have many options when it comes to colors and clothing styles in general.

I think some wear it just to be 'that guy'... you know the 'straight guy who is man enough to wear pink'... some might cause they're gay. And although some guys actually can pull it off and look really good in it... I'm just glad my husband wouldn't ever wear pink!
hmmm... seems like a contradiction... wearing pink to prove you're a real man... some woman must have really worked over some guy to get that idea started! lol

As a guy who's known for wearing pink, I personally wear the color because I think it looks pretty good on me, and have gotten many compliments on it. Also, it takes a certain amount of guts for a hetrosexual man to wear a pink shirt, mostly because of the relation of pink to women, and therefore to homosexuality.
