I think the problem with our country is the fact that there is no "FAMILY". When I mean family, I mean the government does not back up "family values". People should not be able to raise children unless they are married. People should not be able to get married unless they have lived together for X amount of years. Divorce is common now! Having children out of wedlock is astronomical. As a matter of fact, it's so huge of a number, no one has done any stats on that, have they? "Who that is? Ohh that's my babie's daddy!" Look at the tabloids. We are a people of influence. When we see the "Stars" do it, we want to do it. He's sleeping with her now, she's divorcing him and now she's dating this other guy. It's out of control and we need to stop it. In Maryland if you are found guilty of adultry it's a $10.00 fine. LOL that's right TEN BUCKS. Some states it's a hundred dollars. WOW. We're raising our children in this mess. You would agree we need some Family Values Law?

You can't put a low on family values. Values is something you are taught from your parents. I'm not married and I have a son. You would have to kill me in order for me to give him to someone else to raise. Just because you are not marriend doesn't mean that you are not capable of raising a child. I know many married people that are way worse off than me. You have everything backwards. You are saying that people should live together first and then get married. That is WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you believe in the Bible? Have you read it? You need to do that before you even attempt to talk about family.

You can't force people to have certain values in USA. It would defeat the notion of freedom upon which the country was built. However, I do agree that family values are lacking.
Government can encourage it, but can't pass laws enforcing values and morals. Parents need to put more time in the upbringing of their children. This is the first country where I have heard that a child has to pay rent or move out after turning 18 in most cases! I think that people have taken freedom to an extreme. Nothing in LIFE is good in extremes - positive or negative. Everythign has to be balanced. Here in USA, it is too easy to get a divorce - so people split for stupid reasons without any thought as to how it affects the children or the families. Yet, in other countries, people are stifled in BAD marriages becasue of family relations. Either situation is wrong.

Where it comes all down to is EDUCATION. If you are educated, you will make better decisions in life. You'll think things through before getting divorced or having kids when you're not ready, raise your kids right. Kids raised with good guidance will become better humans and they too will make better choices in life. This will continue the chain.

I do agree that Family Values are very weak. Divorce is to easy to obtain. Morals are getting in the obsolete category. The directions that humanity is taking is staggering. It really needs to be looked at from each individual for a change to happen. The courts could help by ordering a certain time frame for counseling before granting divorce. Family values can be established again if parents want to put the time in for their children. The government could say more about family values, but it is up to the individual to care enough to listen, learn and apply what is learned.

The problem is politics are changing the laws that we used to have to assure "American Values", and its our own fault...more and more immigrants are becoming political leaders or at least of political power and are influencing their nationality values upon us all...We don't seem to take a stand until its already taken away...and by that time, we have very little legal recourse to over-turn such ruling..that it would take an act of congress to change, and that's when you find out...it was congress they persuaded to change the laws in the first place...we "Americans" better wake up or allow others to speak for us.

I wish America were more like Sweden in terms of family values. Only people who want families should have them. Everyone else should be free to have an independent, enjoyable, fun-filled life.
